Automated Antimicrobial Application & Thermal-Curing Manufacturing System
Executive and engineering leadership in the design, installation, and operating control of a continuous-flow manufacturing system for applying and curing a bonded antimicrobial treatment across varied orthopedic soft goods.
Results and contributions.
Operating context
A regulated medical-product manufacturer needed a scalable and repeatable way to apply a bonded antimicrobial treatment across soft goods with different materials, sizes, shapes, and handling requirements.
What made the work difficult
The system had to integrate preheating, application, curing, material handling, operator workflow, equipment controls, and quality-system requirements across varied orthopedic soft goods.
Responsibility and authority
As General Manager and COO, Dean helped define system requirements and design direction, led installation with the operating team, and served as an executive approver of manufacturing procedures. Engineers and vendors contributed specialist design and implementation work.
How the work moved forward
- Defined operating requirements and layout needs for varied soft-goods processing.
- Helped design and integrate the conveyor, enclosed heating, automated application, and manual load/unload workflow.
- Led installation and coordinated engineering, production, quality, facilities, purchasing, and vendor work.
- Established operating and quality controls for repeatable manufacturing use.
