Situation
Operating context
PPI had an opportunity to turn differentiated cryotherapy technology into a scalable family of internally manufactured medical products rather than treat it as a single product or formulation.

What made the work difficult
Commercialization required repeatable manufacturing, quality controls, packaging, product integration, and customization across a family of cold-therapy products built on licensed technology.

Responsibility and authority
Dean led product-platform direction, manufacturing integration, quality and design-control governance, and commercialization across the FirstICE product system. PPI commercialized the technology under license. U.S. Patent 5,800,491 names Paul T. Kolen and Joseph F. Nebolon as inventors.

- Directed product-platform development across cold packs, orthopedic wraps, kits, and related applications.
- Integrated formulation, filling, sealing, packaging, labeling, BOM, cost, and production-planning requirements into manufacturing operations.

- Coordinated product, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, marketing, sales-support, and private-label requirements across the platform.
