Owning a venture changes the question from what should the function do to whether the whole model works economically and operationally.
My venture work has included consulting, software, product commercialization, publishing, e-commerce, real-estate and asset operations, and other owner-led initiatives. The scale and industry vary, but the owner perspective forces strategy, execution, risk, cash, systems, and customer value into the same decision.
I tend to approach ventures as operating systems that have to be designed, tested, and adjusted. A good idea is only one input; the model also needs workable economics, repeatable processes, controls, channels, and a practical way to deliver value.
