Operating context
A defense manufacturer needed to sustain complex production, recover customer-facing execution, and replace a legacy production and inventory system before Y2K-related continuity and data risks became critical.
What made the work difficult
The transition had to proceed inside live defense production with strict configuration, quality, traceability, documentation, data-migration, training, and adoption requirements.
Responsibility and authority
Dean managed a five-engineer product and manufacturing engineering group supporting two facilities. He led production engineering, facilitated legacy-system replacement and Visual Manufacturing implementation teams, developed schedules, and coordinated vendors, hardware, migration, pilots, training, manufacturing documentation, and process controls. Final ERP approval and vendor delivery were shared responsibilities.
How the work moved forward
- Managed product and manufacturing engineering across two defense-production facilities.
- Led production engineering support on the MK 41 Vertical Launching System program and related customer-facing defense work.
- Facilitated the legacy PICS replacement and Visual Manufacturing implementation program, including vendor evaluation, schedules, hardware, data conversion, pilots, training, and manufacturing controls.
- Produced and coordinated controlled manufacturing documentation, configuration, tooling, calibration, digital work-instruction, and work-aid systems.
