International Sales, Export Compliance & Order-to-Delivery Operating System
Cross-functional operating leadership for an international sales and export system connecting customer onboarding, commercial terms, payment controls, production coordination, export documentation, freight, customs, invoicing, exceptions, and role-based training.
Results and contributions.
Operating context
PPI needed a repeatable international operating system that could move a customer from qualification and commercial setup through payment, production, export documentation, freight, customs, invoicing, and exception handling.
What made the work difficult
International orders crossed sales, customer service, finance, production, warehouse, quality, freight, customs, and legal boundaries. The system had to coordinate these handoffs without reducing the work to an ERP feature or blurring specialist responsibilities.
Responsibility and authority
As Director of Operations and later General Manager/COO, Dean led cross-functional process design, escalation, and operating decisions. He coordinated with finance teams, legal advisers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other specialists.
How the work moved forward
- Designed and governed customer qualification, customer-master setup, pricing and terms, and distributor/customer contract workflows.
- Integrated wire/payment controls with production, order, invoicing, and shipping processes.
- Established export-document, freight, palletization, customs/duty, claims, return, and exception workflows.
- Built role-based training and escalation procedures that required users to perform the process under supervision.
