Situation

Operating context

As PPI's manufacturing and business systems became increasingly digital, reliable infrastructure, recovery controls, administrator knowledge, and communications continuity became operating requirements rather than back-office conveniences.

Challenge

What made the work difficult

The company had to modernize shared infrastructure, maintain business continuity, and document critical system knowledge so operations did not depend on one specialist.

Dean's role

Responsibility and authority

Dean set operating requirements, priorities, risk decisions, continuity expectations, and implementation plans. He coordinated vendors, internal teams, and administrator transitions while IT specialists handled server, network, firewall, and provider configuration.

How the work moved forward

  1. Governed server, network, wireless, device, security-access, backup, recovery, and incident-response work supporting enterprise and manufacturing systems.
  2. Required end-user and administrator documentation so critical operating knowledge did not reside with one individual.
  3. Coordinated recovery and continuity work across IT specialists, application teams, manufacturing users, vendors, and providers.
  4. Extended continuity governance into communications and answering-service operations with scripts, routing, escalation, and staged provider transition.
