Situation

Operating context

A medical-device client depended on an aging HP 3000 environment and interdependent operating processes that required modernization without losing critical business rules, data relationships, institutional knowledge, or operating continuity.

Challenge

What made the work difficult

The work spanned customer service, orders, finance, product data, manufacturing, warehouse execution, work instructions, nonconformance, and mobile operations. New capabilities had to fit live operations and an existing web/SQL platform while preserving critical legacy business rules.

Responsibility and authority

Through RyteTek, Dean led functional architecture and modernization, translating operating knowledge into requirements, business rules, data structures, workflows, wireframes, development priorities, and acceptance criteria. He coordinated client stakeholders and software developers.

How the work moved forward

  1. Analyzed legacy HP 3000-dependent functions, interfaces, data relationships, and phased replacement priorities.
  2. Defined customer, order, finance, product, manufacturing, warehouse, quality-related, work-instruction, and mobile requirements and exceptions.
  3. Designed product hierarchy, FIFO controls, labeling, traceability, put-away, picking, nonconformance, and digital-work-instruction workflows.
  4. Coordinated architecture and development priorities across SQL, .NET, ASP.NET, existing EzyPlant applications, and Azure DevOps while balancing continuity, supportability, testing, and user adoption.
